About

"Lumpy" was my Dad's nickname for me as a kid. This is Lumpy's Kitchen, a place where I share simple, delicious, classic cuisine that you will want to make over and over again. I aim to inspire other young adults to save some cash and stay home and cook!

This is a Home Cooking blog, as such all recipes are intended for the average skilled person to be able to execute in their own kitchen. I want to share the recipes and tips that have allowed me to embrace the art of home cooking. With a mastery of basic skills and staple ingredients, any home cook is prepared to make each recipe their own.

So, what goes into a recipe in Lumpy's Kitchen?

Diet conscious

I am effected by Crohn's disease, a gastrointestinal disease. This diagnosis was the beginning to my love of cooking! Like so many people know from personal experience or seeing loved ones struggle, having gastrointestinal trouble is challenging on your diet. As such, this blog is very health and diet conscious-- without making it the primary focus. I don't know about you, but I enjoy my food a hell of a lot more when I don't have labels like "paleo", "vegan", or "low-residue" on my mind. Instead, I prefer to relax and enjoy my meal knowing my food is medicine - no matter what diet accommodations I've made. This is one of the main reasons I fell in love with home cooking, you have 100% control over the ingredients and process.

Budget friendly

Look at any financial advice and you will see: making meals at home is a money-saver. Period.

Classic

One of the things that brings me so much joy in life is making my own recipes! The ability to walk into a grocery store without much of a plan, choose ingredients that look good, and bring those back home to be transformed into something delicious just makes me feel like I've accomplished something.  I want to pass on this experience to others. The number one reason why I can do this is I have a small repertoire of classic recipes I use as templates to be modified by the ingredients that I find. These are the types of recipes you will find on Lumpy's Kitchen. A classic recipe needs staying power -- it needs to be delicious in a simplistic way by satisfying some basic desire -- and by this token it can evolve as you do.

Happy cooking!
